What makes alexandrite special?

Alexandrite – one of the six basic Moser colours – has a mysterious, light-purple hue, which drastically changes depending on the type of light. In cool spaces, especially under artificial lighting, it has a soft, light-blue colour. Contrarily, it has a pastel purple tone in daylight and under warm light.
